gbXML settings specify the parameter values used by third-party software applications when calculating
energy use. The following parameters must be specified prior to exporting the building model to a gbXML
file for use with an energy analysis application:
Building Type - specifies the type of building according to the gbXML schema 0.37 (similar to ASHRAE).
Postal Code - determinates the location of the building.
Ground Plane - specifies the level that serves as the ground level reference for the building. Surfaces
below this level are considered to be underground. The default level is zero.
Project Phase - specifies the stage of construction (Existing, New Construction).
Sliver Space Tolerance - specifies the tolerance for areas that will be considered sliver spaces.
To specify gbXML settings:
1 Click Manage tab
2 In the Instance Properties dialog, click Edit for the Energy Data parameter.
3 In the Type Properties dialog, do the following:
4 Click OK twice.
Project Location and Orientation
When you create a project, specify the project location on the globe using the nearest major city or the
latitude and longitude. This project-wide setting is useful for generating location-specific shadows for views
that use them, such as solar studies, walkthroughs, and rendered images.
You can also rotate a view to reflect True North (instead of Project North, which is the top of the view). This
procedure ensures that natural light falls on the correct side of the building model to produce realistic
shadows for solar studies, walkthroughs, and rendered images.
