Idle S p e e d I n s p e c t i o n
NOTE:
• Before checking the idle speed, check these items:
- The malfuction indicator lamp (MIL) has not been
reported on.
- Ignition t i m i n g
- Spark plugs
- Air cleaner
- PCV system
• A p p l y the parking brake.
1. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP)
canister purge valve connector.
2. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC)
(A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.
3. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at
3,000 r p m w i t h o u t load (in Park or neutral) until the
radiator fan comes o n , then let it idle.
4. Check the idle speed w i t h o u t load conditions:
headlights, blower fan, radiator f a n , and air
conditioner off.
Idle speed should be:
6 8 0 ± 5 0 rpm (in Park or neutral)
5. Let the engine idle 1 minute w i t h high electric load
(A/C switch O N , temperature set to Max Cool,
blower fan on High, rear w i n d o w defogger O N , and
headlights on high beam).
Idle speed should be:
6 8 0 ± 5 0 rpm (in Park or neutral)
NOTE: If the idle speed is not w i t h i n specification,
do the s y m p t o m t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g .
6. Reconnect the EVAP canister purge valve
connector.
