DTC P0344: CMP Sensor Intermittent
Interruption
1. Note this freeze data:
• Engine speed
• Vehicle speed
2. Clear the DTC w i t h the HDS.
3. Start the engine, and let it idle 10 seconds.
4. Check the CMP NOISE 2 count in the DATA LIST
w i t h the HDS.
Are 0 counts indicated?
Y E S — G o t o step 7.
IMO—Go to step 5.
5. Test-drive the vehicle for several minutes in the
range of the recorded freeze data.
6. Check the CMP NOISE 2 count in the DATA LIST
w i t h the HDS.
Are 0 counts indicated?
Y E S — G o t o step 7.
NO—Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time.
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at
the CMP sensor and the P C M . H
7. Check for poor or loose connections at these
connectors and terminals:
• CMP sensor
• PCM
• Engine ground
• Body ground
Are the connections OK?
Y E S — G o t o step 8.
NO—Reconnect or repair the connectors or
terminals, then go to step 11.
8. Check for damage to the CMP sensor pulse
projection on the front camshaft pulley (see page
11-217).
Is there damage?
Y E S — R e p l a c e the f r o n t camshaft pulley (see page
6-57), then go to step 1 1 .
NO—Go to step 9.
9. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
10. Replace the CMP sensor (see page 11-217).
11. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
12. Reset the PCM w i t h the HDS.
13. Clear the CKP pattern w i t h the HDS.
14. Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see page 11-340).
15. Do the CKP pattern learn procedure (see page 11-4).
16. Start the engine, and let it idle 10 seconds.
17. Check for T e m p o r a r y DTCs or DTCs w i t h the HDS.
Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated?
Y E S - l f DTC P0344 is indicated, check for poor
connections or loose t e r m i n a l s at the CKP sensor
and the PCM, then go t o step 1. If any other
T e m p o r a r y DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the
indicated D T C s t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g .
NO—Troubleshooting is complete. •
