D T C T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g ( c o n t ' d )
DTC P0139: Rear Secondary H02S (Bank 1,
Sensor 2) Slow Response
DTC P0159: Front Secondary H02S (Bank 2,
Sensor 2) Slow Response
NOTE: Information marked w i t h an asterisk (*) applies
to the front bank (Bank 2).
1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
2. Clear the DTC w i t h the HDS.
3. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at
3,000 r p m w i t h o u t load (in Park or neutral) until the
radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
4. Test-drive under these conditions:
• Engine coolant temperature above 176 °F (80 °C)
• Transmission in D position
• Vehicle speed between 35 m p h (56 km/h) and
55 m p h (88 km/h)
• Drive 5 minutes or m o r e
5. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0139 and/or
P0159* in the DTCs MENU w i t h the HDS.
Does the screen
indicate
FAILED?
Y E S — G o t o step 6.
NO—If the screen indicates PASSED, intermittent
failure, system is OK at this t i m e . Check for poor
connections or loose terminals at the secondary
H02S (Sensor 2) and the PCM. If the screen
indicates EXECUTING, keep d r i v i n g until a result
comes on. If the screen indicates OUT OF
CONDITION, go to step 3 and recheck.
6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
7. Replace the secondary H 0 2 S (Sensor 2) (see page
11-214).
8. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
9. Reset the PCM w i t h the HDS.
10. Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see page 11-340).
11. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at
3,000 r p m w i t h o u t load (in Park or neutral) until the
radiator fan comes o n , then let it idle.
12. Test-drive under these conditions:
• Engine coolant temperature above 176 °F (80 °C)
• Transmission in D position
• Vehicle speed between 35 m p h (56 km/h) and
55 m p h (88 km/h)
• Drive 5 minutes or m o r e
13. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs w i t h the HDS.
Are any Temporary
DTCs
or DTCs
indicated?
Y E S - l f DTC P0139 and/or P0159* is indicated,
check for poor connections or loose terminals at
the secondary H02S (Sensor 2) and the PCM, then
go to step 1. If any other T e m p o r a r y DTCs or DTCs
are indicated, go to the indicated D T C s
troubleshooting.
N O — G o t o step 14.
14. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P0139 and/or
P0159* in the DTCs MENU w i t h the HDS.
Does the screen
indicate
PASSED?
Y E S — T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g is complete. •
NO—If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor
connections or loose terminals at the secondary
H 0 2 S (Sensor 2) and the PCM, then go t o step 1. If
the screen indicates EXECUTING, keep driving until
a result comes on. If the screen indicates OUT OF
CONDITION, go to step 11 and recheck.
