Intake Air System
D T C T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g ( c o n t ' d )
22. Check for continuity between PCM connector
t e r m i n a l B3 and body g r o u n d .

Is there
continuity?
Y E S — G o t o step 23.
NO—Repair open in the w i r e between the PCM (B3)
and the IMT actuator, go to step 25.
23. Remove the IMT actuator (see page 11-383).
24. M o v e the IMT valve by hand.
Does it move
smoothly?
YES—Substitute a k n o w n - g o o d IMT actuator
(see page 11 -383), then go to step 25 and recheck. If
DTC P1078 is not indicated, replace the IMT
actuator (see page 11-383), then go to step 25. If
DTC P1078 is indicated, then go to step 32.
NO—Remove the intake m a n i f o l d cover (see step 1
on page 9-3), and repair the stuck valve. If
necessasy, replace the intake m a n i f o l d (see page
9-2), then go to step 25.
25. Reconnect all connectors.
26. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
27. Reset the PCM w i t h the HDS.
28. Do the PCM idle learn procedure (see page 11-340).
29. Start the engine, and hold the engine speed at
4,000 rpm for 10 seconds, then let it idle.
30. Check for T e m p o r a r y DTCs or DTCs w i t h the HDS.
Are any Temporary
DTCs
or DTCs
indicated?
Y E S - l f DTC P1078 is indicated, check for poor
connections or loose t e r m i n a l s at the IMT actuator
and the PCM, then go to step 1. If any other
T e m p o r a r y DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the
indicated D T C s t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g .
N O — G o t o step 3 1 .
3 1 . Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P1077 in the
DTCs MENU w i t h the HDS.
Does the screen
indicate
PASSED?
YES—Troubleshooting is complete. •
NO—If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor
connections or loose terminals at the IMT actuator
and the PCM, then go to step 1. If the screen
indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 28 and
recheck.
32. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest
software, or substitute a k n o w n - g o o d PCM
(see page 11-6).
33. Strat the engine, and hold the engine speed at
4,000 rpm for 10 seconds, then let it idle.
34. Check for T e m p o r a r y DTCs or DTCs w i t h the HDS.
Are any Temporary
DTCs
or DTCs
indicated?
YES—If DTC P1078 is indicated, check for poor
connections or loose t e r m i n a l s at the IMT actuator
and the PCM, then go to step 1. If any other
T e m p o r a r y DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the
indicated D T C s t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g .
NO—If the PCM was updated, t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g is
complete. If the PCM w a s substituted, replace the
original PCM (see page 11-219). •
