DTC P0872: Short in 4th Clutch Transmission
Fluid Pressure Switch Circuit, or 4th Clutch
Transmission Fluid Pressure Switch Stuck
ON
NOTE:
• Record all freeze data and review General
Troubleshooting Information (see page 14-4) before
y o u troubleshoot.
• This code is caused by an electrical circuit p r o b l e m
and cannot be caused by a mechanical p r o b l e m in the
t r a n s m i s s i o n .
1. Clear the DTC w i t h the HDS.
2. Check the 4th PRES SWITCH signal w i t h the HDS in
the A/T data list w h e n not in 4th gear.
Is the 4th PRES SWITCH OFF?
Y E S — G o t o step 3.
NO—Go to step 6.
3. Start the engine, and w a r m it up to normal
operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).
4. Drive the vehicle in 4th gear in the D position for
m o r e than 5 seconds. Slow d o w n and stop the
wheels.
5. M o n i t o r the OBD status for P0872 in the DTCs/
Freeze Data in A/T Mode Menu for a pass/fail.
Does the result indicate a fail?
Y E S — G o t o step 6.
NO—Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this
t i m e . Check the OP4SW (BLU/YEL) w i r e for an
intermittent short to ground between the 4th clutch
transmission fluid pressure switch and the PCM. If
the tester indicates NOT COMPLETE, return to step
3 and recheck. •
6. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
7. Disconnect the 4th clutch transmission fluid
pressure switch connector.
8. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
9. Check the 4th PRES SWITCH signal w i t h the HDS in
the A/T data list.
Is the 4th PRES SWITCH OFF?
YES—Replace the 4th clutch transmission fluid
pressure switch (see page 14-226), then go to step
11.
NO—Go to step 10.
10. Check for continuity between PCM connector
t e r m i n a l C20 and body g r o u n d .

Is there continuity?
YES—Repair a short to g r o u n d in the wire between
PCM connector terminal C20 and the 4th clutch
transmission fluid pressure switch, then go to step
11.
NO—Update the PCM if it does not have the latest
software, or substitute a k n o w n - g o o d PCM
(see page 14-7), then recheck. If the s y m p t o m /
indication goes away w i t h a k n o w n - g o o d PCM,
replace the original P C M . B
