20. Connect the output shaft (countershaft) speed
sensor connector.
2 1 . Measure the voltage between PCM connector
terminals B19 and A3 or D16.

Is the voltage 0 V or about 5 V?
Y E S — G o t o step 22.
NO—Replace the output shaft (countershaft) speed
sensor (see page 14-223), then go to step 3 1 .
22. Raise the f r o n t of the vehicle, or lift the vehicle up,
make sure it is securely s u p p o r t e d , and allow the
f r o n t wheels to rotate freely.
23. Start the engine, and run it at 2,000 r p m in the D
position.
24. Measure the voltage between PCM connector
terminals B19 and A3 or D16 w h i l e holding the
engine speed at 2,000 r p m .

Is there 1.5-3.5 V?
YES—Update the PCM if it does not have the latest
software, or substitute a k n o w n - g o o d PCM
(see page 14-7), then recheck. If the s y m p t o m /
indication goes away w i t h a k n o w n - g o o d PCM,
replace the original P C M . B
NO—Replace the output shaft (countershaft) speed
sensor (see page 14-223), then go to step 3 1 .
