and stopping the vehicle.
Sudden engagement of the clutch, when the engine
is running at high speed, can destroy the clutch or some other part of the drive
train . When stopping the vehicle, the clutch must be disengaged before the
brakes are applied, because rotor inertia causes the vehicle to operate the same
as it would if equipped with "free-wheeling".
Engine compression CANNOT
be used to slow the vehicle.
t (2) Driving the vehicle
(a) Use switches (23 and 26, Fig. 1) to turn ON lights as required.
(b) Start the engine in accordance with instructions in Para. 3, A through
B,
above .
(c) The "gen-drive" switch (Fig. 1, item 20) must be in DRIVE position.
(d) Depress clutch pedal (Fig. 3, item 9) fully.
(e) Select starting gear with lever (5). An instruction plate with shift pattern
is located on the left panel, above the steering column.
NOTE:
Because of low, final gear reduction (9.4 to l), it is not
necessary to start the vehicle in 1st gear.
CAUTION:
MAKE CERTAIN THE OPERATING AREA IS CLEAR BEFORE
MOVING THE VEHICLE.
WARNING: MAKE CERTAIN OF ADEQUATE HEAD CLEARANCE.
THE
OPERATOR'S HEAD IS ABOVE THE HIGHEST POINT OF
THE VEHICLE.
(f)
Release the clutch pedal smoothly. Release the pedal fully as soon as
the vehicle begins to move. Accelerate and change gears as required.
CAUTION:
1. DO NOT RELEASE THE CLUTCH PEDAL SUDDENLY.
2.
DO NOTACCELERATE
THE ENGINE
TO A HIGH
RATE OF SPEED BE FORE RE LEASIN G THE CLUTCH.
3. . AVOID SUDDEN TURNS AND STOPS.
(g) OBSERVE ALL RULES FOR SAFE VEHICULAR OPERATION

PORT.
