the coupling
assembly off of the shaft (see Figure
5), remove machine
key (6,
Fig.
7).

Remove exciter
rotor assembly

Remove exciter

and note connection
of the two rectifier-to-generator
field
leads
(A,
Figure
8).
Disconnect
and cut off terminal
lugs (B).
NOTE:
Cut near the terminal
to save as much lead as possible.

Remove varnished
tape (C)

secures the two leads between the
exciter
armature
fields
(J) and rectifier
(H).
(d)
Attach
a puller
to the flywheel
(D).
Place a large,
thick,
flat washer or
other suitable
item over the end of thegenerator
shaft to prevent
damage
to centering
seat and threads.
(e)
Pull
the exciter
rotor assembly off of the rotor shaft (E) carefully
and
exercise
the following
cautions.
CAUTION:
PAY
CLOSE
ATTENTION
TO
THE
FIELD
LEADS
(A) WHILE
PULLING
THE EXCITER
FROM
THE
SHAFT.
ONE
MECHANIC
SHOULD
WATCH
THEM
CONSTANTLY
WHILE
ANOTHER
OPERATES
THE
PULLER.
MAKE
CERTAIN
THEY
DO NOT
CATCH
AND
BE SURE
THEY
SLIDE
SMOOTHLY
THROUGH
THE
EXCITER
LEAD
TUBES
(F).
STRAIGHTEN
AND
REMOVE
KINKS
IN THE
LEADS
AS REQUIRED
TO AVOID
DAMAGE
TO
INSULATION
.

Remove pin (10,
Fig.
7) and machine key (11).
(4)
Attach
a chain hoist to exciter
housing
(12,
Fig.
7) and remove screws which
attach the housing to generator
stator
(21).
Use thin bars to pry the housing
off of the rear bearing
(18).
Move housing to a clear area and remove hoist.
(5)
Attach
the hoist to front
bearing bracket
(16)
and remove attaching
screws.
Pry the bracket off of the front
bearing
(17).
Move the bracket to a clear
area and remove the hoist.
