SECTION 2.
PREPARATION FOR USE
The self-propelled unit is shipped in a mobile condition and is ready for operation after
inspection and servicing.
2.
Inspection and Checks
Inspect the unit thoroughly prior to operation.
A.
Inspect exterior for shipping damage such as broken lights, damaged sheet metal,
cut tires, etc.
B.
Open engine-generator compartment doors on both sides. Inspect for any foreign
materials such as rags, shipping papers, etc.
C.
Check fuel, coolant, and oil lines and connections for visible leaks. Visually
inspect the floor or ground surface under the unit for signs of leakage. If leaks
are found, service by tightening hose clamps, tube fittings, etc., as required.
D.
Check the following for sufficient quantity:
(1) Fuel
Check fuel quantity as indicated by fuel gage (See l-l,
Fig. 5, item 1).
Engine control switch (2) must be ON.
Fill tank as required with No. 2

The fuel tank cap is on the right side of the unit.
(2) Engine coolant
The radiator cap is accessible by opening the hinged access cover on the front
canopy housing . Coolant level should be approximately one inch below the
fi I ler neck.
CAUTION:
BE SURE THE COOLING
SYSTEM ANTIFREEZE
SOLUTION
IS ADEQUATE TO PROTECT BE LOW LOWEST TEMPERATURE
EXPECTED.
N OTE :
For antifreeze protection, use a solution of 50% permanent anti-
freeze (Ethylene glycol) and 50% clean water. (Refer to Section
2-2, Para. 5 and Cummins Operation and Maintenance Manual.)
