ASSEMBLY
REMOVAL
AND
INSTALLATION

Genera I
This
section
contains
general
information
for removal and installation
of the engine-
generator
assembly.
It is recommended that this complete
assembly be removed to make
major repairs
to the engine
or generator.
Removal
of the generator
or engine separately
may prove more difficult
than removing
the complete assembly

Removal
A.
Preparation
for Removal
(1)
Location
The self-propelled
unit should be located
in a clean,
clear area where hoists
and lifting
equipment
are available.
Space should be provided
for placing
the
canopy assembly and also the engine-generator
assembly when removed.
(2)
Equipment
required
Tools
required
for this
job are the usual mechanics hand tools.
Time may be
saved by the use of air (or electric)
driven
impact wrenches.
Other
equipment
required
includes:
(a)
Two chain hoists with
lifting
chains and hooks.
(b)
Jack stands or blocks for supporting
the unit at least 12 inches above normal
position.
(c)
Hydraulic
floor
iack (optional).

Removal
Procedures
Two or more mechanics can work on this
job with
little
or no interference
if each
has certain
duties
to perform.
It is good practice
to have several
small cartons
or
boxes available
for storing
attaching
hardware and small parts as they are removed.
(1)
Raise the vehicle
with chain hoists or a hydraulic
floor
jack.
(2)
Position
jack stands on wooden blocks to support the vehicle
about 12 inches
above its normal position,
and lower vehicle.
