Place a large,
thick
washer and a heavy hexagon nut (l/2-13)
on the rod.
Insert the "pull"
wires through
the tubes (E,
Fig.
8) in the exciter
armature
and
start the generator-to-rectifier
leads (A) through.
NOTE:
Make certain
the wires are not crossed.
Tighten
the hex nut against
the flat washer to push the armature
onto the shaft
and, at the same time,
pull the lead wires through
the armature
(see Fig.
15).
Continue
this process until
the armature
is positioned
firmly
against
the ring
(19,
Fig.
7).
Remove the threaded rod and installation
equipment.
Insert the generator
field
leads through
the holes in the rectifier
plate (H,
Fig.
8).
The leads should
fit smoothly
against
the exciter
shaft between
the windings
(J) and the rectifier
(H).
Remove the "pull"
wires and solder new terminal
lugs (B) to the ends of the
generator
field
leads (A).
C onnect
the leads to the diode mounting
plate
terminals
as noted
in Para.
3, C,
(2),
(b), above.
Wrap 4 or 5 turns
of linen
tape (C) around the shaft
between the exciter
coils
(J) and the rectifier
(H) to position
and secure the leads.
Coat the tape with
insulating
varnish .
