When the complete system is to be checked,
and/or adiusted,
a definite'sequence
of procedures
should be followed:
First
- Check or adjust actuator
linkage
Second - Check or adjust magnetic
pickup
Third
- Check or adjust actuator
Fourth
- Check or adjust electric

Governor
linkage
adjustment
The proper adjustment
of the mechanical
linkage
between the hydraulic
actuator
and engine speed control
lever is important
to the satisfactory
operation
of other
electric-hydraulic
governor
components.
The most important
thing to remember about this adiustment
is that the actuator
and linkage
must move the speed control
lever through
its complete range of
travel
from full
idle (fuel off) position
to full
speed (fuel on) position.
An ad-
justment
which does not provide
full
travel
of the speed control
lever can cause
sluggish
operation
and slow response time under load.
When adjusting
the
governor
linkage,
remember that the weight
of the levers
(4 and 8, Fig.
9) and
rod assembly will
automatically
hold the linkage
in FULL
SPEED
(fuel on) position
when the engine
is stopped.
Check and adjust
linkage as follows:
(4
(b)
(4
(4
before adjusting
the actuator
linkage,
remove two attaching
bolts from the
accelerator
I inkage (Ref.
Fig.
13) and move it away from the actuator
so
that it cannot possibly
interfere
with actuator
linkage
adjustment.
Disconnect
ball joint
(5,
Fig.
9) from actuator
lever (4).
The fuel pump lever (8) should be securely
clamped to the pump speed
control
shaft (9),
and the lever (8) should be in a near horizontal
position,
pointing
downward
slightly
at the ball-joint
end.
If adiustment
or tighten-
ing is required,
loosen lever clamping
bolt and be sure the pump shaft
(9)
is rotated
as far as it wil I go in a counterclockwise
direction.
Position
the lever (8) on the shaft (9) so that it is pointing
toward the rear of the
engine and pointing
downward
at an angle of about 10 degrees from
horizontal
as shown in Fig.
8.
Tighten
clamping
bolt.
Actuate
lever to
be certain
it does not touch any engine
parts throughout
its full
travel
range.
Measure
the length of rod (7) between adjusting
nuts (6).
Correct
length
is 5-l/16
inches.
If length
is not within
l/16
inch of this dimension,
loosen nuts (6) and adjust.
