BEFORE
STARTING
ENGINE.

Install
f'll I er cap and check oil
level on gage rod (l-2,
Fig.
1).
(g)
Start engine
and check oil pressure at once.
Allow
engine to idle for about
5 minutes,
then stop.
(h)
After
the engine
has been stopped for about 5 minutes,
recheck the oil
level.
Add oil,
if required,
to bring the leve I up to the "H " mark on the gage rod.
DO NOT
OVERFILL.

Changing
oil filter
element
(a)
Provide
a container
for catching
used oil.
(b)
Remove drain plug (14,
Fig.
6),
if used in your filter.
NOTE:
Oil
will
drain faster
if the center
bolt (1,
Fig.
6) is loosened
sufficiently
to allow
air to enter at the top of the shell
(4).
(c)
Completely
unscrew center
bolt (1) and remove the bolt and associated
parts (2 through
11) as an assembly.
'(d)
Withdraw
filter
element
(11) from shell
(4) and inspect both for metal
particles
.
CAUTION
:
IF BEARING
METAL
PARTICLES
ARE FOUND
ON
THE
ELEMENT
OR IN THE
SHELL,
THE
SOURCE
SHOULD
BE
DETERMINED
BEFORE
A FAILURE
RESULTS.
(e)
Inspect outside
wrapper of element
for wrinkles
and inspect pleats for
waviness
or bunching
which would
indicate
that oil contains
moisture.
CAUTION:
DETERMINE
SOURCE
OF MOISTURE,
INTERNAL
LEAKS,
DEFECTIVE
SEALS,
GASKETS,
ETC.
