Selecting
antifreeze
(a)
Select
a permanent type antifreeze
known to be satisfactory
for use with
chromate corrosion
resistor.
(b)
When
it is not known if the antifreeze
is satisfactory
for use with chromate
resistor,
check with
local Cummins Distributor
for a list of compatible
anti-
freezes.
CAUTION:
DO NOT
USE SOLUBLE
OIL
IN THE
COOLING
SYSTEM.

Checking
antifreeze
solution
Check the solution
with a reliable
tester
when in doubt about antifreeze
pro-
tection .
NOTE:
(a)
When testing,
be sure coolant
is at operating
temperature.
(b)
Follow
manufacturer's
instructions
cn tester.

Draining
the Cooling
System
To drain the cooling
system,
proceed as follows:
(1)
Remove radiator
cap.
(2)
Open radiator
drain valve and remove engine drain plugs (see Fig.
13).
NOTE:
When draining
the system for storage,
remove all drain valves
and
remove drain plugs.
(3)
Allow
the system to drain completely.
NOTE:
Be sure the drain valves do not plug-up
during
draining.
(4)
When the system is completely
drained,
close all drain valves
and install
plugs.
