(10) Install machine key (ll), with pin (10).
(11) Install exciter rotor.

Solder approximately 18 inches of soft bare wire to each of the two
generator fie Id leads (A) Fig. 8. These wires are required to pul I the
field leads through the exciter rotortubes (E).
Lubricate the shaft and exciter rotor bore.
Position the exciter armature so that the keyway lines up with the key and
start it onto the generator shaft.
Install a threaded rod (l/2-13 x 12 inches long) into the end of the
generator shaft.
NOTE: More versatile equipment such as a longer l/2-13 rod, which
requires a 1 -inch diameter pipe spacer, may be used. This type
of equipment is shown in Figure 14.
