ADJUSTMENT/TEST
Genera I
Adjustment
and test procedures
are most applicable
to testing
and adjusting
the genera-
tor set after
major repairs,
replacement
of parts,
or overhaul.
Testing
the Generator
Set
The following
test procedures
may be used for testing
the unit after
major repairs
or
overhaul.
A.
Preoperational
Test-Procedures
Perform
the following
checks,
tests,
and operations
before starting
the unit.
(1)
When testing
the unit,
open all engine
access doors and remove canopy access
panel on the left side of the vehicle.
Remove control
box left access panel.
Figure
1 illustrates
interior
with
panel removed.
Most of the terminal
boards
which
may be used for testing
are located in this area (Ref.
Fig.
3).
(2)
Connect
cables from the generator
output terminals
to a load bank.
Use
cables of the same size and length as those to be used in service
(see l-2,
Para.
4, A).
Be certain
that all connections
are secure,
and the generator
"N " cable is grounded.
(3)
Check engine oil
level.
Oil
should be at,
or near "H" mark on gage rod.
(4)
Check
I b
u ricant
level
in transmission
and rear axle.
(5)
Check radiator
coolant
level
(Ref.
2-2,
Para.
5,
I, (3),
(b).
(6)
Check brake fluid
and check battery
water.
(7)
Check tension
of fan and alternator
V-belts.
(See 2-2,
Figure
18 and 19).
(8)
If governor
throttle
linkage
was disturbed,
check all
linkage
to make certain
engine
speed may be controlled
when the engine
is started.
See Figure
9.
(9)
Inspect for oil,
fuel,
and coolant
leaks.
(10)
If the setting
of the voltage
regulator
rheostat
(44,
Fig.
2) has been disturbed,
set it at CENTER
position
(halfway
between full
clockwise
position
and full
counterclockwise
position).
