REPAIRS

Repair
of the equipment
will
consist
mainly
of the replacement
of parts found defective
by inspection
as outlined
in 2-2,
or in trouble
shooting
in 3-2.
The, "black box" concept of quick repair
is reflected
in the design of electrical
components
and circuitry.
The three trays which contain
generator
controls,
protective
equipment,
and voltage
regulating
equipment
are quickly
replaceable.
Likewise
the governor
electric
control
box is easily
replaceable.
Defective
units should be sent to stock
for overhaul,
or exchange.
2.
Generator
Control
Box
The generator
control
box is generally
repaired
on the "line"
by replacement
of con-
trol trays or adjustment.
See 2-3
for adiustment
procedures.
See 3-2
for trouble
shooting
and identification
of defective
components.
3.
Generator
Generator
"repair " is covered fully
in the Overhaul
Chapter,
6-1,
since major repairs
to the generator
require
removal
and disassembly
with
overhaul
type facilities.
4.
Engine
Many engine electrical
system repairs
are included
in 2-3.
For more complicated
repairs,
see the manufacturer's
instructions
in Chapter
8, or consult
the local Cummins
distributor.
5.
Connection
Diaarams
Perhaps one of the most useful
"tools"
in repair
or any electrical
service
work is a
connection
diagram of the equipment
involved.
A complete
set of connection
dia-
grams for all standard
units and variations
is included
in this section.
When recon-
necting
wires to an electrical
component after replacement,
use the connection
diagrams to make certain
connections
are made correctly.
