Optional Equipment and Identification
As stated in the first paragraph of the Description, the standard generator set is identified
as Specification No. 5381A. When special optional equipment is added to the unit, such
equipment is identified by a Variation number (or numbers). The complete end item is
then identified by the Spec No. plus the Variation number.
A.
Variation No. 1
Variation No. 1 identifies a 28.5-V DC T-R (t ransformer-rectifier) package, which
adds 28.5-V,
direct current power output capability to the generator set. A unit
with this equipment is identified as Spec 5381A, Variation 1 (S5381A-Vl).
B.
Variation No. 2
This variation adds a 112-V DC, T-R package, which provides a capability of supply-
ing 112-V DC power. The unit is identified as Spec 5381A, Variation 2 (S5381A-V2).
C.
Combination of Variations
A unit capable of supplying either 28.5-V or 112-V DC, in addition to the regular
115-V AC, would be identified as Spec 5381A, Variations 1 and 2 (S5381A-Vl and 2).

Any additional optional equipment which may become available will be covered by
an addendum to this manual or by supplements inserted in Chapter 8, Manufacturer's

Engine, Generator, and Control Box
The engine , generator, and control box comprise the principal components of the generator
set.
They are mounted on the welded stee I frame of the chassis body. The engine coolant
radiator is also mounted on the frame just forward of the engine-generator combination.
Figure 3 is a group of illustrations showing the location of various components which might
not be easily located or recognized.

Basic Engine
The engine is a Vee design, 8-cylinder diesel type.
It is basically a V-504-C210
engine with special equipment called for specifically by Cummins Specification
Number 1826-01.
