(b)
Inspect the generator
shaft.
Make certain
it is clean and the machine key
(6,
Fig.
7) is in place.
(c)
Before mounting
the coupling
assembly on the generator
shaft,
remove set
screws (A,
Fig.
6) from the coupling.
Make certain
the hub bore and the
bushing are clean.
(d)
Place bushing (D) in hub (C) and match the unthreaded
half holes in
bushing with threaded half holes in the hub.
(e)
Oil
the threads and points of the two set screws (A) and thread them
loose ly in the holes just aligned.
(f)
Insert a screwdriver
blade in the bushing slot to open the bore enough to
al low easy mounting
on the shaft.
(g)
Mount
the coupling
assembly on the generator
shaft.
Install
so that the
shaft extends
from the bushing about l/8
inch,
as a starting
point
(see
Fig.
5).
Keep the dimension,
arrived
at in step (a) above,
in mind when
locating
the coupling
on the shaft.
Remember that the coupling
will
be
"pulled"
toward the end of the shaft when set screws are tightened.
(h)
Remove the screwdriver
from the bushing slot and tighten
set screws (A,
Figure
6),
to pull hub onto bushing.
(i)
Tighten
the set screws alternately
and evenly
until
tight.
Torque
to 67
foot-pounds
(see Fig.
17).
Strike
against the outer end of the bushing.
Use a wood block to protect
the bushing.
Screws can now be turned a
little
more using the specified
torque.
Repeat until
screws cannot be
tightened
further.
(i)
Hold a "straight-edge"
across the outer end surfaces
of two of the flexible
coupling,
rubber bushings as illustrated
in Fig.
18.
Use a steel ruler
to
measure the distance
from the inner edge of the "straight-edge"
to the
generator
(1).
This distance
must be the same as the dimension
measured
in step (a) above.
A tolerance
of plus or minus l/32
inch between
dimensions
is al lowable.
If measurements
are not the same,
loosen the hub by following
applicable
portions
of instructions
in Para.
3,
B, (1) (a) and (b).
Move the split,
bushing
(D,
Fig.
6) on the shaft as required
to relocate
the coupling,
inward or outward as dictated
by measurement above.
(k)
Repeat step (i) above.
Re-check
measurement
as in step (i).
Repeat as
required
until
the coupling
assembly
is properly
positioned'.
