REPAIRS
1.
Enaine
The engine and associated
parts will
perhaps be the area requiring
the most attention.
Most minor and maintenance
repairs
are covered
in Chapter
2 under Maintenance
and Servicing.
Major
repairs
are covered
in Chapter
8 in the engine
manufacturer's
shop man ua I.
Engine
electrical
connection
diagrams are included
in 5-1,
Electrical
Re pa irs .
2.
Generator
Repairs
to the generator
which
might be identified
as "mechanical",
such as bearing
replacement
are covered fully
in Chapter
6,
Overhaul.

Sheet Metal
Repair
If sheet metal dents,
bends, etc.,
are discovered,
they may be straightened
and
repaired
by dollying
and normal sheet metal practices.
When straightening
has
been completed,
sand the affected
surfaces,
clean thoroughly,
and apply a good
quality
red oxide primer,
or equivalent.
When the primer
is thoroughly
dry,
resand and clean.
Apply
two coats of a good quality
enamel paint.
Frame and Structural
Repair
Cracks or fissures
in any welded
junction,
longitudinal
cracks in the weld itself
or in the structural
metal adjacent
to the weld should be repaired
by welding.
Clean and prepare the metal to be welded
in accordance
with good welding
practices.
Be sure good penetration
is achieved.
