Check engine
idle speed.
Should
be 650 RPM,
plus or minus 25 RPM.
NOTE:
A stroboscope
is required
for this check.
If adjustment
is required,
contact
the local Cummins Engine
Distributor.
(a)
Place automatic-manual
switch
[(33) Fig.
21 in AUTOMATIC
position.
(b)
Place test bank switch
(40) in OFF
position.
(c)
Meter
switch
(34) may be in any position
except
pointing
straight
down.
(d)
If the adjustment
of the voltage
regulator
rheostat
(46) has been disturbed,
adjust
to mid-range
position.
Bring the engine
up to governed
speed and also energize
the generator
by
placing
the operating
mode switch
(20) in GEN
position.
If the engine
comes up to governed
speed,
indicated
by a near 400 Hz reading
on the frequency
meter (6),
and voltage
value appears on the voltmeter
(30),
it proves that the electric-hydraulic
governor
and excitation-deenergization
relay circuits
are functioning.
Observe
frequency
meter (6).
If engine speed is properly
adjusted,
frequency
will
be exactly
400 Hz.
If not,
adjust engine governed
speed in accordance
with
Para.
3, E,
(4).
Observe
voltmeter
(29).
Use rheostat
(44) to adjust voltage
to 115 V AC.
Measure
magnetic
pickup voltage
at terminals
5 and 6,
Fig.
12.
Voltage
should be at least 4 to 8 V AC at no load and governed
(2400 RPM) speed.
If voltage
is low,
adjust magnetic
pickup
in accordance
with
instructions
in
Para.
3, E,
(2).
Measure
input voltage
at actuator
between terminals
(1 and 2,
Fig.
10).
Should
be 2 to 4 V DC.
If voltage
is not in this range,
adjust actuator
in
accordance
with
Para.
3, E , (3).
