At proper tension,
gage reading
should be 90 to 110 pounds (each
belt).
If a gage is not available,
tension
may be checked manually
by depressing
a belt
with the index finger
to determine
the amount of belt deflection
obtained
when a
force of approximately
13 pounds is applied
at a point halfway
between pulleys
(see Fig.
19).

Check and Adjust
Alternator
Belt

Check belt tension
(see Para.

If belt requires
adjustment,
loosen adjusting
bracket capscrew (3,

sufficiently
to allow
alternator
position
to be changed.

Reposition
alternator
to
tighten
(or loosen) belt as required.
