SELF-PROPELLED
GENERATOR SET, SPEC. NO. 538114
The drive mode safety device (see 1-2, Fig. 3) consists of a Micro switch, connected
in series with the fuel shut-off solenoid, and mounted near the output-cable plug
storage box. The function of the device is to shut off fuel and stop the engine in
the event an attempt is made to move the vehicle before the output cable plug is
disconnected from an aircraft and properly stowed in the plug box.
When the unit is supplied with DC output capability, a plug box and safety device
t for each output cable is furnished (see l-2, Fig. 5).
B.
Generate Mode Safety Device
This is another Micro-switch device (Ref. 16, Fig. 3) also connected in series
with the fuel shut-off solenoid.
It is mounted on top of the transmission and is
operated by the gear-shift lever. The function of this device is to stop the
engine if an attempt is made to place the transmission in gear while delivering
power to an aircraft.

Transformer-Rectifiers (Optional) (See l-3,
Fig. 4 for illustration)
The generator set may be equipped with one or two T-Rs (transformer-rectifiers) depending
upon the optional equipment ordered. Both the 28.5-V DC, T-R supplied under Variation
1, and the 112-V DC, T-R supplied as Variation 2, are covered by separate manuals
which are included in Chapter 8 when applicable.
8.
Test Box (Optional)
The test box is an optional accessory item used for testing the generator set. All S-5381A
sets are wired to accommodate a test box, however, the box is supplied only when
ordered separately .
A.
Description (See Fig. 11)
The test box assembly consists of a rotary selector switch, momentary contact push-
button switch, and two, insulated-tip test jacks, mounted in a small metal box.
Connection to the generator set is made through a wiring harness equipped with a
26-contact plug connector which mates with a receptacle connector.
B.
Theory of Operation
Wire leads are connected to the electrical circuitry of the generator set at various
points and routed to a receptacle connector, mounted just forward of the engine
control panel. They are connected to test box rotary switch by a plug connector
and wiring harness.
