Tighten
capscrew (3) and recheck

Repeat steps (2) through
(4) as required
until
belt tension
is correctly
adjusted.

(1)
Check belt tension
(see Para.
8, C, above).

If belts require
adjustment,
loosen two clamping
screws sufficiently
to allow
fan
hub to move in the fan mounting
bracket.
(3)
Adjust
belt tension
by turning
adjusting
screw (1,
Fig.
21) clockwise
to tighten
belts or counterclockwise
to loosen belts.
(4)
Tighten
clamping
screws and recheck
belt tension.
(5)
Repeat
steps (2) through
(4) as required
until
belt tension
is correctly
adjusted.

Always
shorten
the distance
between pulley
centers so belt(s) can be installed
without
force.
CAUTION:
NEVER

ON
OVER
A PULLEY
AND
NEVER
USE
A PRY
BAR TO
IN STALL
A BELT.
When two or more belts are used to drive a component,
replace
belts with a
matched set.
It is necessary to partially
remove fan belts in order to remove and install
an
alternator
belt.
The following
are some rules for new replacement
belts:.
(a)
Belt riding
depth should not vary over l/16
inch (1.587
mm) on fan belt
matched sets.
(b)
Pulley
misalignment
must not vary more than l/16
inch (1.587
mm) for each
foot (0.3848
m) of distance
between pulley
centers.
(c)
Belts should not "bottom"
in pulley
grooves,
nor should they protrude
more
than 3/32
inch (2.381
mm) above top edge of groove.
