(aa) Rotate the selector knob (l-3, Fig. 8, item I) to position "8".
(bb) Use two jumper leads, each equipped with an alligator clip and
a test prod, to connect 12-V DC power to the box. A convenient
place to pick up 12-V DC is at the "BATT" terminal of the engine
voltage regulator.
Connect positive jumper lead from this terminal
to the red test jack. Connect negative lead to a good ground and
to the black test jack.
(cc) Momentarily pressing pushbutton switch (l-3, Fig. 3, item 2) will
flash the exciter field.
(dd) Disconnect jumper leads.
(b) Flashing exciter field without test box
(aa) Refer to Fig. 3, and identify terminals "E-1 " and "E-2".
NOTE: Figure 3 illustrates terminal boards and explains
method of identifying terminals.
(bb) Connect a jumper lead with "alligator" clips, between terminals
"E-2" and "D-14" (ground).
(cc) Connect another jumper lead to terminal "E-8" and MOMENTARILY
touch the other end to terminal "E-l" to "flash" the exciter field.
CAUTION: VERY HIGH AMPERAGE IS AVAILABLE AT
TERMINAL "E-8".
HANDLE WITH CARE.
(dd) Disconnect jumper leads.
(16) Place load contactor control switch (17, Fig. 2) in OFF position, and place
operating mode switch (20) in DRIVE position.
B. Operating Test Procedures
(1) Start the engine in accordance with instructions in 1-3, Para. 3, B, or C.
NOTE: Be sure all output cable plug connectors are properly stored in
plug boxes.
(2) Check operation of engine instruments; DC ammeter (4, Fig. 2), coolant
temperature indicator (1 l), oil pressure gage (8), hourmeter (6), and engine
circuit indicating light (9).
