Adjust
"reset-droop"
to stabilize
engine speed.
(Screw rotation
require-
ment,
CLOCKWISE
or COUNTERCLOCKWISE,
cannot be predetermined.)
Again,
turn the "gain"
adjustment
screw CLOCKWISE
until
the engine
becomes slightly
unstable.
Stabilize
with
"reset"
adjustment.
Repeat
this procedure
until
the reset potentiometer
will
no longer stabilize
engine
operation.
Turn the "gain " adjusting
screw back to
its last position
and
stabilize.
Tighten
locknuts.
NOTE:
Although
best performance
is obtained
with the "gain"
setting
as
high as possible
(clockwise)
while
the engine
is still
stable,
it is
not advisable
to adjust the "gain"
too high because an excessively
"high"
or delicate
adjustment
will
very likely
result
in unstable
(surging)
operation
when the unit is not thoroughly
warmed.
A
setting
near graduation
number
"8" on the "gain"
adjustment
will
generally
produce the most satisfactory
overall
performance.

Accelerator
Linkage
Adjustment
The accelerator
linkage,
illustrated
in Fig.
13, provides
a means of manually
con-
trolling
engine
speed for mobile operation
of the self-propelled
unit by mechanical
operation
of the hydraulic
actuator.
Linkage
components are shown in IDLE
position.
Dotted
lines represent
full
"drive
speed" position,
which
is somewhat
less than the
full
speed position
attainable
by the actuator
arm (1).
Engine
speed is limited
to
2640 RPM
in DRIVE
mode by a speed limiting
governor
in the engine
fuel pump.
(Top speed is also limited
by the same device
in GEN
mode.)
The end (not illustrated)
of the cable core (7) is attached
to a lever actuated
by the
accelerator
pedal.
Depressing
the pedal pulls the core (7) and attached
finger
(2)
in a direction
which moves the arm (1) to increase engine speed.
The most important
thing
in the adjustment
of this
linkage
is to locate the finger
(2) on core (7) so that
arm (1) will
operate freely
to full
IDLE
position
when the accelerator
pedal is in
RE LEASED
position.
To adjust accelerator
linkage,
proceed as follows,
with engine
STOPPED.
(1)
Check operation
of the accelerator
pedal and make certain
that it operates
freely
through
its full
travel
and that the return
spring
is in good condition
and returning
the pedal to idle position
properly.
(2)
With
the engine stopped,
the actuator
lever (4,
Fig.
9) will
be in FULL
SPEED
position.
Lift
the lever (4) to IDLE
position
and observe clearance
at A,
Fig.
13,
between arm (1) and finger
(2).
Clearance
should be at least l/16
inch
when all components are in IDLE
position.
