INSTRUMENT PANEL AND GAUGES
driver should shift to the next highest gear for best
fuel economy. The engine controller will turn the
lamp off after 3 to 5 seconds i f the upshift is not per
formed. The lamp will remain off until the vehicle
stops accelerating and is brought back to the range of
lamp operation, or is shifted into another gear.
The indicator lamp is normally illuminated when
the ignition switch is turned ON, and is turned OFF
when the engine is started. The lamp will be lighted
during engine operation according to engine speed
and load. Refer to Group 14 - Fuel System for addi
tional information.
ANTI LOOK B R A K E S Y S T E M (ABS)
This lamp monitors the anti-lock brake system
(ABS), or rear wheel anti-lock (RWAL) system, de
pending upon vehicle equipment. This lamp will
come on when the ignition key is turned to the ON
position, and may stay on for as long as 30 seconds.
I f the ABS lamp remains on or comes on during driv

INDICATOR
The brake indicator lamp warns the driver that the
parking brake is applied or that the hydraulic pres
sure i n the split brake system is unequal.
Voltage is supplied through the brake indicator
bulb to up to 5 switches. A path to ground for the
current is supplied if:
• The brake warning switch is closed (with unequal
brake system hydraulic pressures), or
• The ignition switch is i n the START position (to
test the bulb), or
• The park brake switch is closed (with the parking
brake applied), or
• The vacuum sensor (diesel engines) senses low
vacuum, or
• The ABS or RWAL system has a malfunction.
LOW
FUEL
WARNING
The low fuel warning indicator lights when the fuel
level i n the tank is less than approximately 1/8 of ca
pacity. A low fuel warning module controls when the
indicator will light. When the module senses approx
imately 65 ohms or more from the fuel level sender
for 10 to 20 continuous seconds, the indicator will
light. The indicator will remain on until the module
senses approximately 65 ohms or less from the fuel
sender for 10 to 20 continuous seconds (exact calibra
tion values shown i n Specifications chart).
LOW
WASHER
FLUID
The low washer fluid indicator lights when the
windshield washer reservoir is less than approxi
mately 1/8 full.
ELECTRONIC DIGITAL CLOCK
The electronic digital clock is i n the radio. The
clock and radio each use the display panel built into
the radio. A digital readout indicates the time i n
hours and minutes whenever the ignition switch is i n
the ON or ACCESSORY position.
When the ignition switch is i n the OFF position or
when the radio frequency is being displayed, time
keeping is accurately maintained.
The procedure for setting the clock varies slightly
with each radio. The correct procedure is described
under the individual radio operating instructions re
ferred to i n the owner's manual supplied with the ve
hicle.
