ENGINE CRANKS,

No fuel in supply tank.
Electrical fuel shutdown solenoid
not open.
Air intake or exhaust plugged.
Fuel filter plugged.
Excessive fuel inlet restriction.
Injection pump not getting fuel or
fuel is aerated.
Inoperative lift pump.
One or more injectors worn or not
operating properly.
Worn or inoperative injection pump.
Internal pump timing incorrect.
Camshaft out of time.
Fill fuel supply.
Check for loose wires and verify that the fuel shutdown solenoid is
functioning.
Remove the obstruction.
Drain fuel/water separator and replace fuel filter.
Check fuel inlet restriction. Correct cause.
Check fuel flow/bleed fuel system.
Check fuel flow and pressure.
Check/replace bad improperly operating injectors.
Visually check fuel delivery with an externally connected injector to one of
the pump outlets. Repair or replace the pump if fuel is not being delivered.
Time the pump (refer to Group 14, Fuel System).
Check/correct gear train timing alignment.

The fuel shutoff solenoid control must be in the run position. Ensure proper
procedure is being used.
(a) V e r i f y t h a t t h e t r a n s m i s s i o n is n o t e n g a g e d .
(b) C h e c k t h e b a t t e r y , s t a r t i n g m o t o r a n d l o o k f o r l o o s e o r
c o r r o d e d w i r i n g c o n n e c t i o n s .
(c) R o t a t e t h e e n g i n e w i t h a b a r r i n g t o o l (Snap-On T o o l SP371,
MTE N o . 3377462, o r e q u i v a l e n t ) t o check f o r i n t e r n a l
r o t a t i o n a l r e s i s t a n c e .
V e r i f y t h e a i d s a r e o p e r a t i n g . R e p a i r / r e p l a c e i n o p e r a t i v e
p a r t s .
V e r i f y s y s t e m is w o r k i n g . R e p a i r / r e p l a c e i n o p e r a t i v e p a r t s .
I n s p e c t o r r e p l a c e f i l t e r a n d c h e c k f o r o b s t r u c t i o n s t o t h e a i r
s u p p l y t u b e .
C h e c k t h e f l o w t h r o u g h t h e f i l t e r a n d b l e e d t h e s y s t e m . L o c a t e
a n d e l i m i n a t e t h e a i r s o u r c e .
