GENERAL INFORMATION
The fuel delivery system used on gas powered en
gines of previous years is no longer used. This con
sisted of a fuel return line that routed excess fuel
pressure back to the fuel tank. The new system will
n o t have a separate fuel return line.
A separate frame mounted fuel filter will not be
used with any gas powered engine.
The Fuel Delivery System for gas powered engines
is controlled by the powertrain control module
(PCM). For additional information, also refer to Pow
ertrain Control Module (PCM) i n the Multi-Port Fuel
Injection (MFI) sections of this group.
The fuel pump module contains a combination fuel
pressure regulator and fuel filter. Refer to the follow
ing Fuel Pump Module—All Gas Powered Engines
for additional information.
FUEL PUMP MODULE—ALL GAS POWERED
ENGINES
The fuel pump module on all gas powered engines
is installed i n the top of the fuel tank (Fig. 1). The
fuel pump module (Figs. 1 or 2) contains the follow
ing:
• A combination fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator
• Electric fuel pump
• Fuel pump reservoir
• A separate in-tank fuel filter
• Pressure relief/rollover valve
• Fuel gauge sending unit
• Fuel supply line connection
• Auxiliary fuel supply fitting (not all engines)
ELECTRIC
FUEL
PUMP
The electric fuel pump is located i n and is part of,
the fuel pump module (Fig. 2). I t is equipped with a
permanent magnet electric motor. The fuel pump
module is suspended i n fuel i n the fuel tank. Fuel is
drawn i n through a separate filter (located on bottom
of module) and pushed through the electric motor to
the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator.
