1.9 CRANKSHAFT ASSEMBLY

5. Lubricate the main bearing cap bolts with a light coating of clean engine oil. Install
them on the main bearing caps. See Figure 1-54. Refer to section 1.9.2 for instructions
and tightening torques.

6. Using a dial gauge and quick-release calipers, measure the inside diameter of each of the
main bearings. See Figure 1-55.
[a] Measure vertically from the top to the bottom of the bore. (see Figure 1-55, A.)
[b] Measure 30 degrees counterclockwise from the separation point of the bearing shells.
(see Figure 1-55, B.)
