11.1 OPERATION OF MERIDIAN (M1) ADAPTIVE INTEGRATION
This chapter explains the PBX and the Octel 200/300 configuration requirements for correct operation of
Meridian 1 (M1) Adaptive Integration that includes message waiting indication and called party
identification.
M1 Adaptive Integration uses an intelligent connection between the Octel 200/300 and the M1 PBX. This
intelligent connection is provided by the SIC8 Interface Card. The SIC8 connects to eight M2616
modular telephone sets. The lines to the display phone are called links.
The interface between the M1 and the Octel 200/300 enables
Message waiting indication (MWI) — control of message waiting lamps on PBX stations.
-
Called party identification (CPI) — identification of the source and original destination of calls
-
forwarded to the Octel 200/300. The Octel 200/300 can process the call and provide call coverage
based on the type of call and desired coverage.
Any information that can be provided to an M1 modular telephone (either on the display itself or by the
LCDs) is available to the Octel 200/300. This information includes the following:
The extension number of an internal station calling the Octel 200/300 directly.
-
The calling and called extension numbers of internal calls forwarded to the Octel 200/300 On
-
external calls, the calling extension number is replaced by the trunk access code and member
number.
The trunk access code and member number of external calls that have been directed to the Octel
-
200/300 for primary answering.
Personal Assistance operates together with called party identification for integrated systems. For many
applications, Personal Assistance and Auto-Transfer to Assistance are required. For details regarding
these two features, refer to the Feature Description volume, Customizing Mailbox Features chapter, for
more information.
.
When a caller is automatically transferred to an intercept whose extension is 0, the M1 sets up a
conference call between the caller, the intercept, and Octel 200/300 The caller hears the prompt
"Connecting forwarded call, (name) is (unavailable)." To avoid the conference, the intercept
extension must be a three or four digit number. If the console is assigned a three or four digit
number, all callers to the operator would have to enter those digits. Announce to Intercept does
operate correctly for non-zero extensions.
Message Waiting Indication. With the MWI feature, the Octel 200/300 can activate and deactivate
telephone message waiting indicators. Refer to the following sections in this chapter, M1 PBX
Requirements, Customer Telephones, and Octel 200/300 Configuration.
.
In large configurations with over 300 mailboxes, there may be delays in message waiting
activation and deactivation under certain circumstances (e.g., broadcast messages). Large
configurations can create a high volume of message waiting commands within a short period of
time. People may notice a delay in their lamps being turned ON or OFF.
Contact your support center if you believe this situation may occur. It is advised that this
possibility be discussed during customer training.
