OPERATION OF CORTELCO MILLENNIUM
INTEGRATION
This chapter explains the Cortelco/ITT 3100 PBX and configuration requirements for correct operation
of ITT 3100 Adaptive Integration that includes Message Waiting Indication and Called Party
Identification.
Integration of the Octel 200/300 on the Millennium is accomplished through an RS-232C serial data link.
Voice connection is through 2500-type ports that are dedicated to voice mail through PBX programming.
Up to 24 integrated ports may be assigned. A total of 768 ports are possible on a full-sized system.
Figure 9-1 shows the cable connections between a Millennium and a Octel 200/300. The RS-232C cable
is supplied by Cortelco as a standard part. Voice connections are standard for Octel 200/300 Line
Interface Cards.
Trunks
The interface between the Millennium and the Octel 200/300 message server allows message waiting
indication (MWI) and called party identification (CPI). The following describes MWI and CPI operation.
Message Waiting Indication. MWI, through the data link, allows the Octel 200/300 to send lamp
message waiting ON and OFF requests to the Millennium.
When the first new message is received in a mailbox, the Octel 200/300 sends information to the
Millennium to activate MWI. When MWI is activated, the lamp is lit. This indicates that the mailbox has
a new message waiting.
The Octel 200/300 can be configured to turn OFF the MWI either when the mailbox is accessed (even if
the messages are not listened to or erased) or when there are no messages in the mailbox.
Refer to the Octel 200/300 Configuration for Millennium Integration section in this chapter for the
system parameters used for setting and clearing the lamps.
Called Party Identification. When a call comes to a Millennium line that is forwarded to the Octel
200/300 the call record is sent over the data link to the message server. In most cases, the Octel 200/300
receives the call record within the first ring of the forwarded call and answers the call as soon as the call
record is received.
