7.1.1 OPERATION OF DEFINITY G3 ADAPTIVE INTEGRATION

This chapter explains the PBX and Octelt 200/300 configuration requirements for correct operation of
AT&T DEFINITY Generic 3i and G3r (G3i) Adaptive Integration that includes message waiting
indication and called party identification.
DEFINITY G3i Adaptive Integration uses an intelligent connection between the Octel 200/300 and the
DEFINITY G3i PBX. This intelligent connection is provided by the ATTIC (AT&T Interface Card). Each
connection to the ATTIC appears to the DEFINITY G3i as an AT&T digital display phone, called a link.
The interface between the DEFINITY G3i and the Octel 200/300 enables
Message waiting indication (MWI) — Control of message waiting lamps on PBX stations.

Called party identification (CPI) — Identification of the source and original destination of calls

forwarded to the Octel 200/300can process the call and provide call coverage based upon the type of
call and desired coverage.
Any information that the DEFINITY G3i provides to an AT&T display phone station (either on the
display itself or by the display set LEDs) is available to the Octel 200/300. This information includes the
following:
The trunk group number of external calls that have been directed to for primary answering.

The trunk group number and the original called extension of external calls that have been forwarded

to the Octel 200/300.
The calling and called extension numbers of internal calls that have been forwarded to the Octel
-
200/300.
The extension number of an internal station calling the Octel 200/300 directly.

For many applications, Personal Assistance and Auto-transfer to Assistance are recommended. For details
regarding these two features, refer to the Feature Description volume, Customizing Mailbox Features
chapter, for more information.

Personal Assistance operates in conjunction with called party identification in integrated systems.
Caution!
Message waiting indication. Message waiting indication enables the Octel 200/300 to activate and
deactivate the message waiting indicator available on phones that indicate when there are messages
waiting on message waiting indication uses the DEFINITY G3i Leave Word Calling (LWC) feature to
perform this function.

If internal callers use the Leave Word Calling feature when calling another station, they will also light
the MWI lamp on the phone. The person receiving the call does not know whether the lamp is for
message waiting indication or Leave Word Calling indication and will have to check for both types.

In large configurations, there may be delays in message waiting activation and deactivation under
certain circumstances (e.g., broadcast messages). Large configurations can create a high volume of
