Check that the timing mark is on No. 1 cylinder
TOG (page 7-3).
Mark the crankshaft pulley (page 7-3), then rotate
the crankshaft 90° clockwise.
NOTE:
This will reduce the possibility of bending the
valves when assembling the engine.
CYLINDER HEADIVALVE
Clean the head gasket residue from the engine block
and check that all oil and water passages are clear.
Instatl a new a-ring on the oil control orifice, then
install the orifice in the cylinder.
NOTE:
Install the orifice with the small diameter end
towards the inside.
Install the dowel pins and a new head gasket.
NOTE:
The head gasket is graphite-coated and does
not require any sealant.
Install the cylinder head and the head bolts.

Coat the head bolt threads and the underside
of the bolt heads with molybdenum disulfide
grease.
Torque the six
10
mm bolts first, then torque the
single
6
mm bolt.
TORQUE:

(5.3-5.7 kg·m, 38-41 ft-Ib)
6 mm bolt: 8-12 N'm
(0.8-1.2 kg-m, 6-7 ft-Ibl
NOTE:
Tighten the 10 mm bolts in 2-3 steps in a
crisscross pattern.
