Controller Board
Removal
IMPORTANT
There are two types of controller board, V5 and V6. They are not
interchangeable. If you remove a V5 controller board, install a V5
controller board. If you remove a V6 controller board, install a V6
controller board.
CAUTION
To prevent electrostatic damage to electronic components, always wear
a properly grounded static wrist strap when you handle circuit boards.
1. Make a configuration printout of all saved configurations. (Refer to the
User's Manual.)
NOTE: The MAC address for the onboard ethernet interface on the V6
2. Prepare the printer for maintenance (page 230).
3. Cabinet Models: Remove the paper path (page 303).
Pedestal Models: Remove the top cover assembly (page 281).
4. Remove the CT board, if it is installed (page 282).
5. V5 controller board only: Remove the ethernet interface assembly, if it is
installed (page 299). (The ethernet interface is built onto the V6 controller
board.)
6. Disconnect all cable connectors from the controller board.
(See page 340.)
7. Loosen but do not remove the two screws securing the metal controller
shield near serial cable connector J201.
8. Loosen but do not remove the screw securing the metal shield to the
bottom of the card cage, on the left side near the card cage fan.
CAUTION
Do not separate the controller board from the metal shield. The shield
serves as a stiffener and ground plane, and is an integral part of the
controller board assembly.
9. Slide the controller board assembly to the left until the keyway clears the
screw securing the controller board to the bottom of the card cage. Lift the
controller board out of the printer.
10. If you are removing the controller board for reasons other than
replacement (i.e., you will re-install the original controller board at some
point), you do not need to remove the flash memory or security key. But if
you are replacing the controller board, remove the flash SIMM and
security key (page 297), and install them on the replacement controller
board. The security key must be installed on the replacement controller
board to ensure the printer functions correctly.
controller board will be printed on the printer's configuration printout
after completing this replacement procedure.
