The Routed topology is to be preferred compared to the Integrated topology,
when integration with existing IT infrastructure is needed. The big advantage
is that data flow between the IT- and the OnAir Control network can be con-
trolled. In case of malfunction in the IT network, the OnAir Control network
will not be affected.
In the routed network solution one or more OnAir consoles are placed into
their own physical network (OnAir Control network). Using a router, the
OnAir Control network is connected to the IT network.
UDP multicast packets must be used by the OnAir consoles subsystems to
establish and maintain the DNet communication as they are routable in con-
trast to broadcast messages.
The switches and routers of the network must support IGMP V3.
The routed solution provides the same functionality as the integrated solution,
refer to
chapter
9.4.1.2. The only difference is that the traffic between the
OnAir Control network and the IT network can be controlled by the router.
The picture on the next page shows an example of a routed network topology.
The Routed topology is used where different networks are brought together
by a router.
