5-84 Operation
Starting with SW V2.2, the OnAir 3000 is available with the optional 5.1
channel surround monitoring. In such a case, the SURROUND CTRL panel is
installed next to the standard monitoring panel, as shown below. This allows
easily selecting between the internal stereo mixdown or an external stereo
encoder (such as a Dolby

control.

Indicates whether the monitored source (or at least one of them in case of
ADD mode) is in 5.1 format.
Indicates whether the monitored source is in either mono or stereo format.
These keys determine whether a 5.1 signal is mixed down either by the con-
sole's internal downmix processing or by an optional external encoder (such
as Dolby E
both the main and the near field CR monitor speakers.
In case of ADD mode, there are two configuration possibilities (see
6.5.24.1): Add mode = Split, or Add mode = Mix.
If Add mode is set to Split, the monitoring format is stereo, since split mode
is always two channels of mono signals; then the internal stereo downmix
processing becomes active. If Add mode is set to Mix, the monitoring format
is 5.1 in case of at least one monitored source is in 5.1 format; the stereo
downmix is routed via the external encoder. In case of stereo sources only,
the internal stereo downmix processing becomes active.
DIRECT
Engaging this monitoring mode makes every signal pass through 'as is',
regardless of its format (e.g. 5.1-channel signals to all the individual speakers,
stereo signals to the L and R speakers only).
STEREO
If active, a signal from a stereo source passes unprocessed to the L and R
speakers. If the monitored source is a 5.1-channel source, the signal is down-
mixed to a stereo signal, according to the DWN MIX / ENC setting.
Keys to switch the the individual loudspeakers On/Off.
If active, the monitoring switches from the main surround monitoring system
over to the stereo-only near field monitoring system.
The volume of the near field monitoring system is set with the rotary encoder
and displayed by the LED ring.
