NOTICE
A fte r selecting new bearings, recheck the clearance
w ith a plastigauge. Incorrect clearance can cause
severe engine damage.

CONNECTING ROD SELECTION

An alphabetical weight code is stamped on the cap.
If a connecting rod requires replacement, you
should select a rod w ith the same weight code as
the original.

- Crankshaft ipage 13-9)

MAIN JOURNAL BEARING

NOTICE
Do n o t interchange the bearing inserts. They m ust
be in stalled in th e ir o rig in a l locations o r the correct
bearing o il clearance m a y n o t be obtained, resulting
in engine damage.
BEARING INSPECTION
Remove the crankshaft (page 13-6).
Clean off any oil from the bearings.
Check the bearings fo r unusual wear, damage or
peeling and replace them if necessary.
Measure the main journal bearing I.D. at between
the bearing groove and crankcase outer side end of
the bearing, and 90 degrees to the index mark.
