MIL Blink Pattern

• If the HDS pocket tester is not available, DTC can
be read fro m the ECM m em ory by the M IL blink
pattern.
• The num ber o f MIL blinks is the equivalent the
main code o f the DTC (the sub code cannot be
displayed by the MIL).
• The MIL has tw o types of blinks, a long blink and
short blink. The long blinking lasts fo r 1.3 sec
onds, the short blinking lasts fo r 0.5 seconds.
One long blink is the equivalent o f ten short
blinks. For exam ple, when tw o long blinks are
fo llo w e d by five short blinks, the MIL is 25 (tw o
long blinks = 20 blinks, plus five short blinks).
• W hen the ECM stores more than one DTC, the
MIL w ill indicate them by blinking in the order
fro m the low est num ber to highest num ber.

MIL Check

W hen the ig n ition sw itch is turne d ON and engine stop switch " Q ", the MIL w ill stay on fo r a fe w sec
onds, then go off. If the MIL does not com e on, trou blesho o t the MIL circuit (page 6-36).

CURRENT DTC/FREEZE DTC

The DTC is indicated in tw o ways according to the fa ilu re status.
• In case the ECM detects the problem at present, the M IL w ill com e on and the M IL w ill start to blink
as its DTC w hen the side stand is low ered. It is possible to readout the MIL blink pattern as the cur
rent DTC.
• In case the ECM does not detect any problem at present but has a problem stored in its m em ory, the
MIL w ill not ligh t and blink. If it is necessary to retrieve the past problem , readout the freeze DTC by
fo llo w in g the DTC readout procedure.

HDS POCKET TESTER INFORMATION

• The HDS can readout the DTC, freeze data, current data and other ECM condition .
How to connect the HDS Pocket Tester
Turn the ig n itio n sw itch to OFF.
Remove the m ain seat (page 3-4).
Remove the d u m m y connector fro m the DLC.
Connect the HDS pocket tester to the DLC.
Turn the ig n itio n sw itch to ON and engine stop
sw itch " Q ", check the DTC and freeze data.
N O T E .
• Freeze data indicates the engine condition s w hen
the firs t m alfunction was detected.
ECM reset
The HDS can reset the ECM data including the DTC,
freeze data and som e learning m em ory.
DTC READOUT
Start the engine and check the MIL.
• If the engine w ill not start, tu rn the starter m o to r
fo r m ore than 10 seconds and check that the MIL
blinks.
• W hen the ig n ition switch is turned ON, the MIL
w ill stay on fo r a fe w seconds, then go off.
If the MIL stays on or blinks, connect the HDS Pocket
Tester to the DLC (page 6-12).
