Troubleshooting
Symptom
SERIAL CONNECTION FAILED
appears when attempting to
connect to the RLC.
The RLC does not send or
receive Ethernet traffic.

What to do
1
Ensure that you entered the logon name
and password correctly when trying to
establish the connection.

Ensure that someone is not already
logged on to the RLC.

Ensure the RLC is properly seated in its
slot.
4
Reseat the RLC.

Ensure you specified the correct COM
port when attempting the connection.

Verify that no other applications on the
administration PC are using the COM
port.

Check the serial cable connection to
ensure it is good.

Using a breakout box, verify that the
COM port is active.

If the problem still exists, contact your
Nortel distributor. There might be a
hardware problem.

Ensure the RLC is seated in its slot
properly and connected to the
backplane.

Check the Ethernet cable between the
RLC and the network and ensure it is
good.

Ensure the Ethernet cable is connected.

If the RLC still does not send or receive
traffic, contact your data network
administrator.

Data network administrator: Ensure
other network devices are configured to
allow traffic to and from the RLC.
