If an NT8D69 MDU is installed in the option 61, remove it by gently
pulling the unit forward two or three inches. Wait at least 10 seconds, and
then remove it from the card slot.
Wait at least 10 seconds before you remove the MDU from the card
slot to allow the hard disk to stop spinning.

Install the QMM42 cartridge for release 18 software on the new MSI or
EMSI card for CPU 1.
Note: If the new card is a QPC584 MSI card, it must be vintage L or
later.
10 Set the ENB/DIS switch on both new MSI or EMSI cards to DIS.
11 On both MSI or EMSI cards, set positions 1, 5, and 7 on switch SW3 to
ON.
12 Install the NTND16 MDU into its assigned position in the CPU/Network
shelf card slots. Install the MDU in the position previously occupied by
the NT8D69 MDU.
Note: If the NTND16 MDU must be located close to a 5/12 V converter
card, install the EMI shield (provided in the upgrade package) between
the shelf rails next to the power converter card.
13 With the ENB/DIS switch set to DIS, insert each new MSI or EMSI card
into its assigned position.
14 For systems using MSI cards, connect one end of an NT8D80AC cable
to the connector on the MSI card in CPU 0. Connect the other end to
faceplate connector 0 on the NTND16 MDU. For systems using EMSI
cards, connect one end of an NT9D89AB cable to the connector on the
EMSI card in CPU 0. Connect the other end to faceplate connector 0 on
the NTND16 MDU.
