Adjustment
No adjustment is necessary for the 2.3L drive belt. The

indicates when the drive belt is worn (stretched). A pointer
and gauge are built into the tensioner. When the pointer no
longer registers within the range limits of the gauge, the
belt must be replaced.
HLA TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
IGNITION TIMING, IDLE SPEED
lgnition Timing
6. Noise during idle after high-speed running.
Note
Initial timing is preset and is not adjustable. (Refer to Section G.)
Action
Run engine at 2,000-3,000
rpm.
If noise stops after 2 seconds-1 0 minutes*,
HLA is normal.
If not, replace HLA.
*
Time required for engine oil to circulate
within engine includes tolerance for engine
oil condition and ambient temperature.
Check oil pressure.
If lower than specification, check for cause.
Oil pressure: 276-414 kPa (2.8-4.2
kgflcm2, 40-40 psi) -2,000 rpm
(Refer to page
BI-16.)
Press down HLA by hand.
If it does not move, HLA is normal.
If it moves, replace HLA.
