ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR
If the engine coolant temperature sensor or circuit has an open or short, Diagnostic Trouble Code
No. P0117, P0118, P0125, P I 116, or PI11 7 is output.
If the engine coolant temperature sensor circuit fails, no torque converter lockup will occur (AT).
Removal / Installation
Warning
Never remove the engine coolant temperature
sensor while the engine is hot.
1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor con-
nector.
2. Remove the engine coolant temperature sensor.
3. Install in the reverse order of removal.
Tightening torque:
16-24
N-m (1.7-2.3
kgf.m, 12-1 7 ftdbf)

Inspection
1. Disconnect the engine coolant temperature connector.
2. Check for damaged or pushed out pin(s), corrosion and
loose wires.
3. Reconnect the sensor connector.
4. Connect the SST (NGS) to the data link connector. Turn
the ignition switch ON.
5.
Access ECT PID and record function on the NGS.

water with a thermometer and heat the water gradually.
7.
Measure the resistance.
