STARTING SYSTEM
Brush and brush holder
1. Checkfor no continuity between each insulated brush and
the plate. Replace the brush holder
if
there
is
continuity.
2. Measure the force of the brush spring by using a spring
balance.
Spring force: 18N (1.83 kgf, 4.04 Ibf}
3. Replace the spring if not as specified.
Brush
If a brush is worn almost to, or beyond, the wear limit,
replace all of the brushes.
Brush length: 16.8mm (0.66 in)
Armature
1. Check for no contirluity between the commutator and the
core. Replace the armature if there is continuity.

2. Check for no continuity between the commutator and the
shaft. Replace the armature if there is continuity.
3. Inspect the armature windings for broken or burned insu-
lation and unwelded or open connections.
