network. A jack is provided by the telephone company. Jacks for this type of customer provided
equipment will not be provided on party lines or coin lines.
If the system is malfunctioning, it may also be causing harm to the telephone network; the system
should be disconnected until the source of the problem can be determined and until repair has been
made. If this is not done, the telephone company may temporarily disconnect service.
The telephone company may make changes in its technical operations and procedures; if such changes
affect the compatibility or use of the system, the telephone company is required to give adequate notice
of the changes.
Upon request the following information must be provided to the telephone company:
l
The telephone number(s) that the system will be connected to.

l
The Service Code is 9.OF.
* The Ringer Equivalence Number @EN) is useful to determine the quantity of devices you may
connect to your telephone line and still have all of those devices ring when your telephone number is
called. In most, if not all areas, the sum of the RENs of all devices connected to one line should not
exceed 5.0. To be certain of the number of devices you may connect to your line, as determined by the
REN, you should contact your local telephone company to determine the maximum REN for your
calling area.
