6B-12 ENGINE COOLING

1. Water pump

INSTALLATION

Reverse removal procedures.

D Refill cooling system with proper coolant referring to

COOLANT item of MAINTENANCE.

D After installation, check each joint for leakage.

1) Disconnect negative cable at battery.

2) Drain cooling system.

3) Remove front seats.

4) Remove engine room center member with gear shift control le-

ver and parking brake lever.

5) Loosen water pump drive belt tension.

Then remove water pump pulley and pump drive belt. When

servicing vehicle equipped with A/C, remove compressor drive

belt before removing water pump drive belt.

6) Remove timing belt and tensioner according to procedure de-

scribed in SECTION 6A.

7) Remove water pump assembly.

Do not disassemble water pump.

If any repair is required on pump, replace it as assembly.

1) Rotate water pump by hand to check for smooth operation.

If pump does not rotate smoothly or makes abnormal noise, re-

Replace as necessary.
