3B-8 MANUAL RACK AND PINION
1. Rack damper screw
2. Rack plunger spring
3. Rack plunger
4. Rack damper screw
lock nut
10) After tightening rack damper screw to above specified torque,
11) Tighten lock nut to specified torque.

6) Install pinion assembly and tighten pinion bearing plug to spe-
cified torque.
Special Tool (43 mm socket)
(A): 09944-26011
Tightening torque
(a): 95 N·m (9.5 kg-m, 69.0 Ib-ft)
7) Apply grease lightly to sliding part of plunger against rack.
A": Grease 99000-25050

8) Install parts as shown.
9) Apply sealant to all around thread part of rack damper screw
and tighten to specified torque.
B": Sealant 99000-31110

Tightening Torque
(a): 12 N·m (1.2 kg-m, 9.0 Ib-ft)
turn it back by 405 – 755 and check for rotation torque of pinion.
If it is not as specified below, adjust so that it will be within spe-
cified torque range.
Special Tool
(D): 09944-18211
Rotation torque of pinion
(a): 0.4 – 1.2 N·m (0.04 – 0.12 kg-m, 0.29 – 0.87 Ib-ft)
Also, check if rack as a whole moves smoothly.
Tightening Torque
(b): 40 N·m (4.0 kg-m, 29.0 Ib-ft)
