GENERAL INFORMATION
the BCM. The Gauge Cluster dimming is controlled
using a PWM-hardwire from the Instrument Clus-
ter.
The Instrument Cluster contains the Chime tone
generator. The cluster provides a 5-volt pull-up to
the BCM, which uses a hardwire low-side driver to
control the chime. The cluster monitors the PCI bus
and based on information from various modules,
and cluster internal parameters, will request
chimes from the BCM as well as illuminating the
appropriate warning indicators.
The Instrument Cluster will store DTC's, commu-
nicate on the PCI bus, display engine information,
and display certain information using the DRBIII .
PCI bus information received from the BCM:
Odometer Total
Fuel Level
Door Ajar
Dimming Level
Door Unlock
Deck Ajar
Front Fog Lamp
Rear Fog Lamp (BUX only)
Lighting Parade Mode
Ignition Switch Status
Park Lamp Status
Low Tire Warning
High Beam
Country Code
PCI bus information received from the ABS module:
ABS Lamp Status
Brake Fluid Lamp Status
Brake Warning Indicator
ABS Warning Indicator
PCI bus information received from the PCM:
Engine Speed
Charging System Volts
Charging System Warning (indicator located in
the Volt Gauge)
Engine Oil Pressure
Engine Oil Temperature
Engine Coolant Temperature
Skip Shift (Amber indicator located in the Ta-
chometer, this indicator also controlled by gauge
pointer position)
MIL Warning Indicator (Service Engine Soon)
Vehicle Speed
PCI bus information received from the ACM:
Airbag Lamp Status
Airbag Warning Indicator
Seatbelt Lamp Status
Seatbelt Warning Indicator
The Instrument Cluster receives the following in-
formation via hardwire:
Brake Fluid Level Low
Park Brake
The Gauge Cluster receives the following informa-
tion via hardwire from the ACM:
Passenger Airbag Off
Instrument Cluster controlled warning indicators,
based on gauge pointer position:
Low Engine Oil Pressure Warning (indicator lo-
cated in the Oil Pressure Gauge)
Engine Oil Temperature Warning (indicator lo-
cated in the Oil Temperature Gauge)
Engine Coolant Temperature Warning (indicator
located in the Engine Coolant Temperature
Gauge)
Skip Shift (Red LED, located in the Tachometer)
Low Fuel Warning
GAUGE WARNING INDICATORS
CHARGING SYSTEM WARNING INDICATOR
This indicator is located in the Volt Gauge. The
non- serviceable LED is hardwired to the MIC. The
cluster will illuminate the indicator when the ap-
propriate PCI bus message is received indicating a
Charging System High or Charging System Voltage
Failure has occurred.
The full scale of the Volt Gauge is 10 to 18 volts.
When the cluster receives a bus message indicating
the voltage has reached a Voltage Low condition (10
volts), the cluster will move the gauge pointer to the
appropriate position, illuminate the warning indi-
cator, and request a single chime. When the voltage
reading falls at or above the Voltage Low point, the
cluster will turn OFF the warning indicator.
When the cluster receives a bus message indicat-
ing the voltage at or above the Voltage High point
(16 volts), the cluster will move the pointer to the
appropriate position, illuminate the indicator, and
request a single chime. When the voltage reading
falls at or below the Voltage High point, the cluster
will turn OFF the indicator.
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE WARNING
INDICATOR
This indicator is located in the Engine Coolant
Temperature Gauge. The non- serviceable LED is
hardwired to the MIC. When the cluster receives a
PCI bus message indicating the coolant tempera-
ture has reached or exceeded the Temperature High
