DRIVEABILITY - GAS
Symptom:
*BRAKE SWITCH SENSE STATUS DOES NOT CHANGE ON DRBIII
DRBIII DOES NOT SHOW BRAKE SW PRESSED OR RELEASED
(A103) FUSED B+ CIRCUIT
(Z1) BRAKE LAMP SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
BRAKE LAMP SWITCH
(K29) BRAKE LAMP SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN
(K29) BRAKE LAMP SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
(K29) BRAKE LAMP SWITCH SIGNAL LESS THAN 10.0 VOLTS

Ignition on, engine not running.
With the DRBIII in Inputs/Outputs, read the Brake Switch state.
While observing the DRBIII display, press and release the brake pedal several
times.
Does the DRBIII display Brake Switch PRESSED and RELEASED?
Yes → The Brake Lamp Switch is operating properly at this time.
→ Go To 2
No

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the Brake Lamp Switch harness connector.
Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground, probe the (A103) Fused B+ circuit at
the Brake Lamp Switch harness connector.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes → Go To 3
→ Repair the open or short to ground in the (A103) Fused B+ circuit.
No

Using a 12-volt test light connect to 12-volts, probe the (Z1) Brake Lamp Switch
ground circuit.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes → Go To 4
→ Repair the open in the (Z1) Brake Lamp Switch Ground circuit.
No

Measure the resistance across the (K29) Brake Lamp Switch Signal terminal and the
(Z1) Ground terminal (measurement taken across the switch).
Apply and release the Brake Pedal while monitoring the ohmmeter.
Does the resistance change from below 5.0 ohms to open circuit?
Yes → Go To 5
→ Replace the Brake Lamp Switch.
No
POSSIBLE CAUSES
ACTION
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 4.
Check and replace fuses as necessary.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 4.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 4.
Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER - 4.
